I've experience both conscious and unconscious seizures. I am not an expert or professional (at anything really), but I do know that in my case the THC/CBD does help keep me from going completely unconscious. I had a medication change, some additional added too in the past year, I have not gone completely unconscious with my seizures in that time. I'm not 100% sure on anything, but before my medication change, I had taken a break from Cannabis for several months. The old medication was not working and I had a massive unconscious seizure where the results usually end up in the hospital. After that seizure, I was still on the same med, just higher dose and I could tell it was not going to be long before another seizure would come. I started back up with the Cannabis and let my neurologist know that I needed to change medication to something else. Which did occur, but only after a few months due to insurance issues. UGH!
In that time, the cannabis did seem to help in my case in keeping me alert enough (or maybe it slowed down the activity?) and I was able to get to a safe(r) position/sitting/laying. I'm not 100% convinced one way or the other on cannabis in general for seizures, I think it really depends on the individual to be honest. I have had a lot of experience with cannabis before getting my seizures (not really known at this time as to the cause, too many variables and health factors). But I am very aware that many with seizures do not want to go that route due to the fact it is just in the early stages of being studied. The fact that we have to go through "testing" with each medication to see IF it will help, is very frustrating - so I totally get why people would be hesitant to go there. Even though it does work for me in my case (FOR NOW!), I would not recommend anyone to just jump into it without having an idea of what it could do and also what it could not do. Everyone reacts differently due to their unique system, and the fact that the plant will continue to evolve and change over time, makes it a tough one to "regulate" I'm sure. 5mg of THC might knock someone into another universe, where as others it would be like having a sip of water - no big deal.
For me, I have a feeling that seizures in my body evolve over time. When I was first diagnosed, it was very different than it is now. And its been around 7-8 years now. The progression has gotten worse unfortunately, but there has been some improvements with medication adjustments. It's just the toll those med's take on you/your memory/functioning/etc., a nasty price to pay.
So I guess I just have to stick with what works best for me at this time. Listen to others, while understanding that no one really knows much about anything and try to make sense in this non-sense world. When I feel uneasy/or what have you - I'll tend to back off those variables that might be causing those feelings - i.e. caffeine, excess sugar, junk food, etc. And yes, I do back off on THC/CBD as well, mainly because it is just another roll of the dice in the game of craps. There's always going to be the good and the bad.
