Juvenile absence epilepsy

Hello. My son was diagnosed early 2024 with JAE, he is on lamotrigine twice daily and has managed it well. With brief absence seizures weekly. Few days ago he had a frightening tonic clonic lasting around 5 mins. I was so frightened. He had only just got back from a trip and admitted that evening he had not been taking his meds as he should have. I’m hoping this episode was to do with that , and it not progressing . Anyone else been in this situation? I think he’d missed a few days worth. I’m really hoping this was to do with him not taking them correctly . He is 15 , diagnosed when he was 14

  1. Hi that must have been a very scary experience. Some of our members will say that missing their medication dose can be a trigger for a seizure. I would definitely mention this to the doctor just to see what they have to say as well. I found this article from one of our members with their experience, I hope this is helpful: https://epilepsydisease.com/living/body-ceiling. Jill (Team Member)
