Hi everyone. This is my first post here 👋 My daughter is 12 and was diagnosed 3 months ago with focal aware epilepsy, which they think is most likely Rolandic epilepsy. She had a normal MRI and EEG and normal blood work. She was diagnosed by her presentation aka the fact that we’d seen the seizures ourselves. She would wake up an hour into sleeping fully aware with her arms and legs doing a bunch of small jerking movements. She was started on depakote, 250 mg morning and 500 mg at night and the seizures stopped exactly four weeks into the medication.
Before starting medication, she’d been menstruating for two years. The first two months on medication, she menstruated and now her period is late (no possibility of pregnancy obviously).
The other thing is that she’s noticed that when she smiles wide, especially when she’s been holding her mouth in a smiling position while practicing makeup or taking a picture, she’s noticed her cheeks quivering, which I’ve also seen. It looks like when you’ve been holding something too long and your muscles begin to shake.
She has her three month checkup in a few days, and I wanted to see if anyone else had experience with this? I know depakote could cause tremors but it’s just when she smiles and I haven’t heard of that. Any help means a lot. ❤️
