Epilim sodium Valporate and pregnancy

Hi I recently had a epileptic fit and ended up shattering my shoulder and having surgery carried out. When I was in hospital they kept saying I need to see my neurologist as I plan on starting a family. They mentioned theres been recent studies that men taking sodium valporate andna link to child neuro defects. The wait time for my neurologist is 3-6months and we already delayed having kids by a year due to personal reasons. Has anyone spoke to there neurologist on this concern have any other men onnsodium valporate had children did they explain the risks? I'm just hoping for some information on if it's a major risk or minimal? Thank you so much in helping me and my wife put our minds at ease or for providing us with information to come to a conclusion
