IDK ... Thoughts on Epilepsy

My story begins well before I was 10. I can remember waking up extremely worn out, having nightmares and always wetting the bed. I was unaware of what was happening until I turned 18. That’s when I went to the doctor and discovered I'd been having 2 to 3 grand mal seizures a month.

I lost my job after an epileptic seizure

It had been happening since before I could remember, and it was genetic. My father and my grandmother also had seizures. Regardless of how, it is what it is... and I needed to make a living.

So, I worked through life, and worked considerably hard, but I definitely had no clue how serious my own condition was... until around 3 years ago when I had a seizure, "luckily," while leaving work. I didn't hurt anyone, but I was immediately cut from working with others.

No one will help me get work

I’m 39. I've worked manual labor my whole life. I've always liked to earn my fill in living, and I've never enjoyed asking for help. I just want to support my family and get us into a stable home, but regardless of how many times I explain my story or who I tell, nobody helps.

Positivity is essential for mental health

But you can help yourself and just stay focused on positivity. There is no easy side to this horrible condition, sadly. It only gets worse from the start. Get the help you need and deserve as soon as you can. Don't hesitate.

This is not a matter of luck. The symptoms epilepsy brings with it are very serious and can affect mental health substantially, not only for the one who is epileptic but also for everyone around them. Stay kind and help keep healthy minds.
