Driving with Epilepsy

Hi, my name is Cameron and I was thinking of getting my unrestricted driver's license. But here's the issue, I am 18, and have had epilepsy (Traumatic Brain Injury) since I was seven months old and when I turned sixteen I went and got my permit and now I am eighteen and still have it. Is this common for people like me who have this condition take this long to receive their unrestricted license.

  1. Depending on the state there are so many years you have to be seizure free. Here in California you have to be seizure free at least 2 years. I wouldn’t drive here at all because traffic is so bad. I have access paratransit service here where I can ride the buses and train for free.

    1. The state took my license because I got pulled over an they seen my meds and ask me all about my seizures even said I was under the influence but I'm scared 😱 to drive any way

      1. Hi have you talked to your doctor about your license? They would be able to help with understanding if there should be any restrictions on you driving. Please keep us posted. Jill (Team Member)
