STD application process

Hi- I'm looking for some help. on 4/19 this year I had a major work injury, heavy box fell on my head and eye. I had concussion and my right eye has retinal detachment. I'm also having uncontrolled seizures few days after my injury. I'm an epilepsy patient for over 37 yrs. my last seizures episode was in 2017. it's been mostly controlled with daily medications but now I'm having weekly seizures. had eye surgery and retina is attached but still have severe vision loss. My eye surgeon said surgery was successful and can't say why my vision is still not good and declined to continue keep me temporary disabled. Work comp stopped paying my wage loss payment since 6/24. work comp doctor said my epilepsy is pre-existing and work comp will not cover the treatment; he said I'm unable to drive or work safely until epilepsy is well controlled. no doctor wants to certify me as disabled due to work injury related issue. I have applied for STD but need a neurologist willing to treat me and certify doctor portion of the disability form,
What do I do?

  1. Hi I am so sorry you have gone through all of this! This must be so discouraging and now you are having seizures all over again. Do you have an existing neurologist, one that you have been seeing before this accident that can help you sign off on the paperwork? In addition, I am hoping this website can help, there are online doctors who can potentially help with the process: https://fmladocs.com/services/short-term-disability. Or, you could also visit an Urgent Care Center and bring your paperwork. I hope this is helpful. Jill (Team Member)
