Has anyone had angry outbursts related to taking Keppra?

I’ve been on Keppra for seizures the past 3 years and have noticed an increase in angry outbursts and outrage that’s unlike me. I also find myself getting sad and crying easier, being paranoid of others and thinking the worst, and a poorer memory. The rage scares me most and seems uncontrollable at times. I always thought it may be from my brain surgery after my first known seizure and fall from it. However as I research more, I find anger to be a side effect of Keppra, which I only started after that first seizure and surgery. Now I’m left feeling stuck on whether to switch to zonisamide that my neuro recommended instead of Keppra. Anyone else relate or transitioned between the two medicines?

  1. Hi I am so glad you reached out, you are definitely not alone in this. I am sending over an article from one of our members who had a very similar experience. Once you read her story, take a look at the comments, you will see this is unfortunately a common side effect. https://epilepsydisease.com/living/keppra-rage. I would definitely encourage you to speak to your doctor to see what would be the most helpful for you. Please keep us posted. Jill (Team Member)
