Switching Medication From Epilim to Keppra?

Has anyone else with JME suffered unexplained, intense anxiety and increased myoclonus when switching from Epilim (Sodium Valproate) to Keppra (Levetiracetam)?

Seizures well controlled for 15 years+ on Epilim. Switched to aid weight loss 6 months ago. Now in the process of switching back and hoping that Keppra hasn’t caused long term damage.

No seizures thankfully but I’ve gone from being a confident and outgoing sales person to a housebound, borderline mute in less than 6 months. All of a sudden, I feel agoraphobic, claustrophobic, get overstimulated in loud places easily, car journeys trouble me.

I’ve never experienced anything like this before and can only attribute it to the hormonal changes from the Keppra. Please tell me it gets better and I’ll go back to the old me, eventually 🤞 🙏

Thanks in advance 💜

  1. Hi there!

I'm sorry you are experiencing this! I completely relate to you! I'm not on Keppra but I'm on Briviact and its similar to Keppra. It has completely changed my mood and I feel anxious for no reason at all. I'm in the process of finding another medication. I reach out to my doctor every time I have an issue. I started this medication mid-November and I can not stay on it. Reach out to your healthcare provider. I'm not on Keppra but my med is just like keppra.
