Brain Zaps

I was shot in the head and subsequently developed a seizure disorder. I stopped taking my keppra 7 years ago. I had what felt like a buzzing, electromagnetic pulse wave in my brain starting with a soft buzz intensifying to a strong current before completely dropping off. It was a smooth escalation, like a dial being turned up, and it took place in less than 1.5 seconds. I have not and am not taking any meds at all so it's not withdrawal. But over the last several days I've had multiple events like this, though not with the matched intensity of the first. The frequency has increased and on demand I can scan my eyes from side to side and make the initial buzz start up. I am not stressed ordealing with anxiety but I was watching a dog desperately cower away from a man and realizing the abuse it had undoubtedly suffered made a strong "zap" come over me. That's the only instance I remember thinking or doing anything in particular. How much worse are these going to get? Does anyone else have these without antidepressant withdrawal symptoms. Has anyone found relief? It has become a burden and all within 4-5 days.

  1. Thank you so much for posting this! I have tumors on the left side of my brain that cause my epilepsy. Recently I had started feeling those zaps you were talking about, and got worried. During some of them I even had to close my eyes and wince at the pain/intensity of them. I had informed my doctor and she ended it chalking it up to it being “headaches.” At that point I had given up because it was like my pain was unimportant even though I am terrified that the tumors were growing. As bad as the situation is, I’m glad to hear that there are others who experience this odd pain.

    1. First, thank you so much for your honesty and transparency in sharing some of your story. Going through a traumatic experience such as this could not have been easy. Please know this community is here for you. Have you spoken to your doctor and/or care team about what you have been experiencing? I do strongly recommend this being a starting place for you if you have no done so already. I've linked a few articles that I hope you find helpful. Please keep us updated as you wish.
