Does Coffee Trigger Epilepsy?

Hi guys,
Hope you all are doing well!

I am actually a sufferer of Photosensitive Epilepsy. This means that lights trigger epileptic seizures in my case.

Of course just like all the coffee lovers, I love coffee too and drink it on a regular basis.

However this time due to work stress, I started drinking 2 to 3 or even 4 to 5 big mugs of Coffee everyday.

1 mug probably has about 2 to 3 small cups of coffee.

Just recently I realized that I was feeling a bit unwell and bright lights were distracting me.

Suddenly, yesterday I faced an episode of epileptic seizure. I didn't miss any medication.

I was wondering if coffee contributed to my seizure episode.

Is it so that coffee did actually trigger epilepsy indirectly?

If you have any thoughts on this, please feel free to share

Till then, have a good day
Cheers

  1. so sorry you had to experience an episode like this. High stress can definitely attribute to triggering a seizure. While you should definitely check in your care team about the specific intake of your coffee and if this impacts your seizures, I have found these resources that might be helpful:
