Recent issue with insurance

Hi everyone, little backround info first. I’m 28 I’ve had epilepsy since I was born. As a child I had petit mal seizures and as I got older those stopped and grand mal seizures replaced them.
When properly medicated my epilepsy is extremely well controlled however recently I changed jobs and got a different insurance. My previous insurance did not require I see a primary care to see my neurologist so as a result I never saw a primary care as an adult. This new insurance does require I see a primary. The primary care I found needed a release from a previous primary care in order to see me. I could not provide them with this release and as a result have been delayed seeing my neurologist.
Last week I had a seizure at work and a kind stranger called an ambulance when I was bleeding and confused.
My question and the point of this story is have any of you had the same immense amount of difficulty just getting to the doctor to get your script? Thank you

  1. Hi there! First, I'm really sorry to hear you had to go through so much to be connected with your neurologist - insurance can be tricky to navigate. I am sure that you're not alone in this experience. We appreciate you taking the time to share with the community and pose this question! Hoping you never have to experience this again. Wishing you all the best, Kailah (Epilepsy Team Member)
