TLE Sugery Location (Long, Sorry.)

Try and read this all please, Anybody with experience please chime in. I have TLE and need to get a LITT (laser zap my brain !) procedure done on my right temporal lobe.

I need help deciding on my surgery hospital location… I’ve been procrastinating for years. I'm deciding between my local hospital, and a top ranked region hospital. My local hospital is the University of Wisconsin Hospitals (Madison, Wi), and I’ve also been considering Mayo Clinic (Rochester, MN).

I believe I’ll be getting a LITT procedure on my amygdala, or a few spots there. If that doesn’t work, I’d potentially need a 2cd surgery ( noooooooooooo).

My situation: I love my current health care team, here at UW-Health, and I have one of the most qualified epileptologists here. For ex. Head of Epilepsy Fellowship Program, runs the EEG lab, Director of the University’s Epilepsy Program, etc. Regardless of his awesomeness, we have only 2 epilepsy specific neurosurgeons here at UW-Health. My neurologist is very confident in the surgeon that would be doing my surgery. Sometimes I just feel skeptical, like he’s being “pushy”, but I think he’s that way because he really does care and is worried about me.

Should I just put 110% full trust in him, and go for it? This surgeon is a little younger, and it looks like he has about 10-12 years of experience. Interestingly, he began his bachelors at the same college as me. A good school, but not first class. That means we both graduated from the same school with B.S in Biology. This neurosurgeon graduated with Honors in med school, and attended a prestigious fellowship program at Vanderbilt. I trust this, but Mayo in Minnesota is ranked as a top hospital for neurosurgery, consistently. I have gotten pre-approval with insurance to see neurology there, as well.

I’m asking you all, because it’s important that I make a decision sometime soon. My seizures just continue to get worse and generalize into grand mals. Here’s some real question I have for anybody that can help, or has experience.

Question 1: Do you guys think there’s significant differences in the technology, or equipement, between these two facilities? Mayo does run a neurosurgery fellowship program in Rochester, and is larger.

Question 2: Do you think I should trust, very simply, trust my Neurologist’s immediate opinion and go for it? They’ve said to just get surgery here in Madison (UW- Health). Fyi I’m on Disability right now, and have some time to spare.

Question 3: It’s been a serious holdup - do you think I’m insulting my current healthcare team by going elsewhere for brain surgery. UW-Health has done so much for me, for 7 years… The Mayo Clinic in Rochester Minnesota is just ranked top notch. Do you think that just because they larger, and regional.

Question 4: This surgery is a “minimally invasive” brain surgery, in the world of brain surgeries. Am I being to anxious about things?

Honestly lol Who cares anyways. it aint gonna work
