Sad life having epilepsy

Am a mother with a son in his thirty s,with epilepsy since he was seventeen.Has been a hard life for him.He has no life can't drive, can't go on a date.Just a sad life.To me this is worse disease you can have. How is everyone else coping?

  1. Hi there! Encourage him to get out and socialize. I started having seizures at 9 and I'm now in my late 30s. I've had seizures on and off. I won't lie, it can be hard at times. You can feel very isolated if you don't pay attention. I live alone and I have an active social and dating life. I had to figure out what epilepsy means to me and not let it control my life completely. I pay attention to my body and how I feel.

Are his seizures extremely active right now? If so, its always best to keep the health care provider in the loop. Would he be open to moving to an area where he can catch public transportation and be more independent?

    1. HI Francine, I'm new to this also. My son is 30 also and was diagnosed last year after contracting encephalitis. We are both struggling with this disease. Coping has not been easy. It's so hard to watch your child go through this when their lives are just starting. I don't have any answers for you but I can be here if you want to talk. It's been pretty lonely so far.

      1. Hi there!
I'm sorry your son is going through this. Being diagnosed with epilepsy as an adult can be hard, not impossible. I was diagnosed as a child, but dealt with it as an adult. I'd suggest finding the best doctor and ask questions. Tell your on to. be patient with himself. He can have it all!
