Prolific US author advocating putting things in person's mouth having a seizure!

Reading 'My Sister's Keeper' by Jodi Picoult who it's said does masses of research... to find her characters advocating putting things in the mouth of a person having a grand mal seizure! How can this have escaped notice albeit translated into many languages!!!?? Copyright 2004, paperback 2018.

  1. Sadly I am familiar due to being a former senior practitioner within NHS, it just surprised me that in this day and age such a fact could still be allowed to be published, or is not generally known! Epilepsy I believe is ever more common, and there are more of us, albeit my own are not epilepsy but stress related...but have been full on grand mal seizures.... so sadly your articles are to someone converted long ago... but hoping you have your own publicity.

    1. Hi there,

I did look up the book you are talking about. I think how it says put something in Campbell's mouth could highlight how misunderstood epilepsy is. The myth of the spoon still rings until this day. That is why spreading awareness is so important. I have had several incidents when explaining what to do with epilepsy and the spoon has been mentioned. Raising awareness is really important for the epilepsy community.
