The Importance of Taking Epilepsy Medication

It is important for me to take my epilepsy medication. If I did not take my medication, I would open the door for me to have a breakthrough seizure.

When my epilepsy first started, I struggled with taking medication. I did not want to be the kid that had to take medication. To be honest, I had no choice in the matter.

As a child, I struggled with taking my medication. I thought if I had to take medication it meant I wasn't normal. I thought if I took medication, I am not normal. So I would stop taking my medication for periods of time.

Sticking to treatment to avoid breakthrough seizures

During these times, I would have breakthrough seizures. My mom finally decided to bring me to my doctor. I let him know I wasn't taking my medication. He had to explain to me the importance of taking my medication. Taking medication doesn’t mean I'm not normal. But not taking my medication could have big consequences...
